Getting to know your Instant Pot pressure cooker.
Turn lid counter-clockwise.
Close Lid Turn
Clockwise until the lid fins line up over base handles.
Make sure it’s snug behind the sealing ring rack. It’s removable and should be cleaned often.
Shield prevents food from clogging the steam release pipe. It’s removable and should be cleaned often.
On the top of the lid. “Sealing”means seal the cooker, trapping steam and increasing pressure.“Venting” means release the steam through the steam release to decrease pressure.
On the top of the lid. UP, cooker is pressurized. DOWN, cooker is depressurized.
3 Ways to Release Pressure
Natural Release (NR)
Pressure releases on its own. May take 5 to 40+ minutes. Shorter time with less food in the cooker.
Quick Release (QR)
Turn steam release to “Venting” position when cooking is complete.
Combo of Natural and Quick Release: Recipe will instruct you on timing.
Clean up in an instant!
- Put the inner pot in the dishwasher and wipe down the cooker base.
- Remove the anti-block shield from the lid, wash it, dry it, and re-attach it to the lid.
- Every few uses, remove the steam release handle/valve, the float valve, and the silicone sealing ring from the lid.
- Secure the small parts in a mesh bag, and place the bag and the sealing ring on the top rack of your dishwasher, along with the Instant Pot lid, which is also top-rack dishwasher safe.
